Guacamaya, July 14, 2025. In 2024, the Latin American poultry industry reached historic figures in both egg production and consumption, solidifying the region as one of the most dynamic in the world. Brazil reaffirmed its leadership with over 57 billion units, while Venezuela climbed to seventh place, surpassing countries like the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. Additionally, for the first time, Latin Americans consumed more eggs per capita than the global average, according to the 2024 LATAM Productive Data report by the Latin American Egg Institute (ILH).

According to the recent 2024 LATAM Productive Data report, prepared by the Latin American Egg Institute (ILH) with support from the Latin American Poultry Association (ALA) and Eggcelente Consulting, the region produced more than 12.2% of the world’s eggs, even surpassing traditional powerhouses like the United States and Canada in laying hens per capita.

In the regional ranking, Brazil remains the absolute leader, with production exceeding 57 billion units in 2024. It is followed by Mexico and Colombia, while Venezuela rose to seventh place with an estimated production of 4.7 billion eggs, overtaking the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. This Venezuelan progress is attributed to the sustained growth of the sector in recent years, despite economic challenges.

Projections for 2025 indicate that these rankings will remain stable, with positive prospects for Venezuela, which continues to increase its production rate.

The report also highlights a historic milestone in consumption: for the first time, Latin Americans surpassed the global average, with 292 eggs consumed per capita in 2024, compared to the global average of 271. This figure not only reflects the importance of eggs as an essential food due to their high nutritional value and economic accessibility but also the success of educational and promotional campaigns driving their consumption.

Opportunities to Export and Diversify

The growth in production and consumption opens significant opportunities for the sector, both in terms of exports and productive diversification. The increasing domestic and international demand presents new challenges to modernize infrastructure, strengthen cold chains, and ensure quality standards that allow the region to establish itself as a key supplier in global markets.

In a global context marked by the search for accessible and sustainable proteins, eggs are emerging as a strategic option for consumers and an economic lever for Latin American countries.
