U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned in Georgetown on Thursday that any military action by Venezuela against Guyana or its oil interests “would not end well,” during a visit to strengthen bilateral ties amid the century-old dispute over the Essequibo region.
As part of his latest tour of the Caribbean, the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, held a meeting with Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Stuart Young, in Kingston, Jamaica. During this meeting, the Trinidadian government was urged to support the North American country’s measures against Nicolás Maduro’s administration, according to Trinidad’s Guardian newspaper.

Jorge Rodríguez, the Venezuelan government’s delegate for dialogue with the United States, denounced on Monday the deportation of 238 Venezuelans to a “mega-prison” in El Salvador, as well as the use of the 1798 “Alien Enemies Act” against his co-nationals.
Roberto Enríquez, recently appointed as the executive secretary of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), stated that his administration will be characterized by dialogue and the pursuit of consensus. In remarks made on the program Vladimir a la Carta, he also acknowledged the legitimacy of María Corina Machado within the opposition leadership, although he admitted that there are currently no communication channels with her.
