Guacamaya, July 17, 2025. A partnership between the Monagas regional government and the international group China Ai will establish joint ventures and an investment fund in farmland located in the western part of the state, as part of the Agro-Food Economic Zone of eastern Venezuela.
Monagas governor Ernesto Luna announced on Wednesday the signing of an agreement with the Chinese investment group China Ai, aimed at developing an ambitious agro-industrial project on lands in western Monagas. The initiative includes the creation of several joint ventures and an International Investment Fund, with the goal of driving food production and exports from the region.
Luna specified that the lands selected for this project have already been inspected and verified by the president of the National Land Institute (INTI), David Hernández, ensuring their availability and suitability for cultivation.
The governor highlighted that this alliance is the result of efforts made in 2023 during a visit to China by Nicolás Maduro and himself, which now materializes within the framework of the Agro-Food Economic Zone of eastern Venezuela.
During that visit, several experts noted Xi Jinping’s interest in Venezuela’s Special Economic Zones.
For his part, Zhao Guotao, director of China Ai, stressed that his group will contribute capital, technology, technical expertise, and administrative capabilities to boost local production. “The state will contribute land, water, agricultural experience, and institutional support to channel commercial operations globally,” he added, according to Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
The agreement aims to position Monagas as an agricultural development hub targeting the international market, combining local resources with Chinese business expertise in trade and agro-industry.
