Guacamaya, March 13, 2025. During his participation in the Economic Agenda of Román Lozinski on the Éxitos circuit, the partner-director of Ecoanalítica, Asdrúbal Oliveros, warned this Wednesday about the accelerated rise in inflation in Venezuela. According to Oliveros, inflation has shown a significant rebound in recent months, reversing the downward trend observed at the beginning of last year.

The economist explained that, while in August 2024 an inflation rate of 20% was projected based on official data, the government ended up reporting a figure of 48% for the same period. “Until August, we were seeing a downward trend, both in the dependent indicators published and in the independent ones. Then, that inflation begins to rise at a much faster and greater pace,” he noted.

This inflationary acceleration is largely due to the devaluation of the bolívar against the dollar, which has directly impacted prices in the economy, as over 90% of prices are indexed to the currency. “Even dollar prices have experienced increases, and adjustments in services also contribute to inflationary pressure,” Oliveros pointed out.

The economist also highlighted that accumulated inflation over the last year has reached 108.5%, an alarming figure that reflects the severity of the country’s economic situation. Oliveros specified that Ecoanalítica had projected a rate of 60% for the year 2024, which, besides having approximate official figures, sharply contrasts with the year-over-year variation up to February of this year.

The situation poses challenges both for the government and the general population, which faces increasingly deteriorated purchasing power. In light of this scenario, Oliveros emphasized the need to implement urgent economic measures to control inflation and stabilize the Venezuelan economy.
