Exclusive: Political Parties Deny Receiving Link to Register Candidates for Venezuela’s May 25 Election

Guacamaya, April 8, 2025. Representatives from several political parties claim they are being blocked from registering their candidates with the National Electoral Council (CNE), despite the process having opened on Monday.

The CNE set the week of April 7–11 for political groups to register their candidates for the May 25 election, which will determine representatives for the National Assembly, the governors of all 24 states, and their respective state legislative councils.

Political parties have designated members responsible for nominating their candidates in each election. However, they allege that the CNE has not sent them the web link to register, even though the process officially began on April 7.

The electoral process continues to move forward amid great uncertainty. On one hand, the CNE has provided few details about the schedule. On the other, the vast majority of parties have not announced their candidates or whether they will form alliances with each other.

The ruling party already presented its list of gubernatorial candidates on March 31, but the opposition has yet to clarify its nominees. From Guacamaya, we have only managed to compile a partial list of potential candidates.
