Guacamaya, September 2, 2025. During a press conference, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. armed forces had attacked a vessel that, he claimed, was carrying narcotics and had departed from Venezuela.

“We shot at a boat, a drug-carrying boat, there were a lot of drugs on that boat,” stated the head of state. “There’s more where that came from. We have a lot of drugs pouring into our country, coming in for a long time, these came out of Venezuela, coming out very heavily from Venezuela, many things are coming out of Venezuela.”

This announcement comes amidst a naval deployment by the Southern Command in the Caribbean Sea. However, it is unknown if these units were used, as well as the full nature of the attack. It could range from light weapons fire with the Coast Guard to a coordinated attack by the Navy.

In a post on X from his personal account, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that “U.S. armed forces carried out a lethal strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug boat that had departed from Venezuela and was being operated by a designated narcoterrorist organization.”
