Guacamaya. August 18, 2025— The Venezuelan government has issued a 30-day nationwide ban on the operation and circulation of drones, as well as remotely piloted aircraft and model aeronautics. This decision was formalized through Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 6,297 and may be extended if deemed necessary.

The ban includes not only flying drones but also any activities related to their instruction, training, purchase, sale, manufacturing, distribution, import, and export—including all parts and components.

This joint resolution was signed by the Ministries of Interior, Justice and Peace; Transportation; Defense; and Economy and Finance. The only exceptions apply to state security and defense agencies, provided they are performing official duties and have proper authorization.

The move comes in response to heightened political and national security concerns, particularly following the U.S. announcement of military deployments near Venezuelan territory—an action the Maduro administration views as a threat.

Previously, drone use in Venezuela was regulated by the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), which required licenses recreational, private, or commercial use. Restrictions were already in place near airports, crowded areas, and sensitive zones like energy facilities and military installations.
