Guacamaya, May 26, 2025. Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) presented on Sunday night a first update of the results of the regional and legislative elections held this May 25.
At 11:40 p.m., it reported that it had counted 93% of the polling stations, with a 41% participation rate of “active male and female voters.”
This figure would be higher than numerous polls and expert projections, which had expected participation between 20 and 25%. This time, the elections did not have independent international observers, nor opposition party witnesses at most polling stations. Therefore, it is impossible to verify the results published by the CNE.
The opposition would have retained only one governor: Alberto Galíndez in Cojedes. It would have even lost in states with strong opposition bases, such as Zulia or Nueva Esparta.
The election took place amid high levels of political apathy, a lack of institutional advertising, few resources for a short campaign, and calls for abstention by María Corina Machado and a portion of the opposition.
With the results published by the CNE—without independent verification—the PSUV could be consolidating itself as the sole party in Venezuela, an issue that still generates debate within its ranks.
In the National Assembly’s “national list,” the votes would have been distributed as follows:
- Great Patriotic Pole (includes PSUV, the ruling party): 82.68%
- Democratic Alliance: 6.25%
- Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) and Unión y Cambio (UNICA): 5.18%
- Fuerza Vecinal: 2.57%
- Others: 3.31%
The winners for the governorship of each state would be the following. This time, the new state of Guayana Esequiba, in territory disputed with the neighboring country of Guyana, is also included.
