Guacamaya, June 4, 2025. From the headquarters of the Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE), the president of the body, Elvis Amoroso, announced the holding of municipal elections nationwide on July 27. In statements to the press, broadcast by the state-run Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), details of the main events in the electoral timetable were also specified.

“The National Electoral Council, exercising its constitutional and legal powers, unanimously agreed on July 27 as the date for the elections of mayors and municipal councilors of the municipalities of the Republic,” stated Elvis Amoroso.

The electoral register cutoff closes today, June 4, the same day as the announcement, followed by the approval of the definitive electoral register on June 9. The acceptance of nominations and registrations will be open from June 9 to June 13, while the electoral campaign will take place from July 11 to July 24. Additionally, elections for indigenous peoples’ councilors were announced for August 3, 2025.

Furthermore, the CNE president highlighted the various forms of political participation in the country, emphasizing the swearing-in ceremonies following the recent regional elections held on May 25. “We have seen with satisfaction the swearing-in of some governors and the election of indigenous peoples according to their own methods,” he said.

This announcement comes just ten days after the results of the legislative and regional elections held on May 25 were made public, without the final figures being released in a disaggregated manner through the regular CNE channels. These elections had a voter turnout percentage questioned by various opposition sources and analysts, and the discordant results have generated distrust.
