Guacamaya, October 16, 2025. During the meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Juan Ramón De La Fuente, Mexico was warned that the military escalation will continue and that it should avoid aligning with Venezuela, according to La Politica Online.

In the encounter, the U.S. representative made it clear that there is intensive monitoring of members of Mexico’s ruling party and their ideological sympathies towards Cuba and Venezuela.

Official statements explained that the visit focused “on key issues of the bilateral relationship, especially security.”

According to Reuters, visas have been revoked for 50 Mexican politicians, as part of a State Department campaign to cancel travel authorizations for those who posted inconvenient messages on social media. This is where we see the role of Under Secretary Christopher Landau, who boasts of his self-assigned nickname “the Visa Revoker.”

Mexico continues to be a key ally for Cuba, sending shipments of oil and fuel at subsidized prices, partly replacing the role that Caracas once had.

On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum has openly questioned the Trump administration’s narrative that Venezuela is a “narco-state,” or that there are links between the Sinaloa Cartel and Maduro.

In the last two months, the White House has argued that it is necessary to use military force against narco-terrorists in the Caribbean, based on this narrative. To this end, it has deployed at least 8 warships, bombers, fighter jets, drones, and a Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Eastern Caribbean.

During his electoral campaign, Trump also stated his intention to use US armed forces inside Mexico to fight drug cartels.

The visa issue remains murky, according to the Mexican section of Online Politics. Rubio did not explain who lost access to the United States or what will happen to the US-based assets of the affected individuals.

The article also explains that the surveillance of MORENA party militants “promises new episodes because, in spite of everything, figures from all ranks continue to participate in activities in support of Venezuela and Cuba. Furthermore, a trip by politicians aligned with the ruling party to North Korea two weeks ago is on record.”
