Guacamaya is a digital media platform created to understand Venezuela and the world around it. Founded in early 2025, it aims to create a space for meaningful public debate, analysis, and objectivity.
It emerges from the need to explain the country as it is today. It was born during the most challenging time for journalism and analysis, amid a political conflict with extreme polarisation.
The idea behind Guacamaya is both to inform and to provide a platform for experts, analysts, and key actors in Venezuela’s politics and economy.
The name is inspired by the iconic bird of modern-day Caracas. The blue-and-yellow macaw, the guacamaya, can often be seen flying over the capital, almost always in pairs, as well as across much of Venezuela’s coastal mountain range.
