The leader of Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) urged Venezuelans to defend democracy by participating in this Sunday’s municipal elections. He stated that his party and its allies are unwilling to give up any political ground.
Opposition lawmaker and leader Stalin González urged citizens this Thursday to go to the polls on July 27 to “defend democracy” and not surrender representation in the municipal elections.
During a press conference, González affirmed that UNT, along with other political organizations such as Unión y Cambio, Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS), Cambio en Paz, and Puente, maintains “a clear path” of participation to safeguard the political spaces won by the opposition.
“Here, we do not surrender. We will participate, defend democracy, and protect each of these spaces,” said González, who was also elected as a lawmaker in last May’s elections.
González assured that the teams and candidates for councilors and mayors are ready to mobilize on Sunday and protect polling stations. “We do not agree with giving up these spaces. On Sunday, we will participate and defend each of these democratic spaces,” he reiterated.
The leader concluded by calling on Venezuelans to actively join the electoral process and not give up on the peaceful defense of their citizen rights.
