Guacamaya, July 29, 2025. An emergency situation continues to affect several plains regions of the country since last Saturday. Intense rainfall caused the overflow of the Apure and Portuguesa rivers, resulting in restricted passage between the states of Apure and Guárico and serious damage to homes and affected families.
Esteros de Camaguán municipality in the state of Guárico is one of the hardest-hit areas, with a report of approximately 9,974 affected families as of Monday, according to official information shared by Mayor Emilio Ávila. Among these families, at least 1,639 individuals have been displaced to 21 temporary shelters due to flooding that has submerged around 62 sectors.
Ávila told Radio Fe y Alegría that the most severely affected zones include Puerto Miranda, La Negra, La Paraíta, Carrizaleo, Lomas de la Bendición, and Las Marías, along with areas previously affected such as Barrio Abajo, El Campito, Buenaventura 1 and 2, and Rómulo Gallegos 1 and 2. The situation has persisted since the weekend, as rainfall continues.
Meanwhile, a section of Troncal 2 was eroded last Friday, disabling the route between Apure and Guárico for at least 12 hours. The Vice President for Public Works, Jorge Márquez, accompanied by Governors Wilmer Rodríguez (Apure) and Donald Donaire (Guárico), oversaw the beginning of road restoration efforts.

For now, authorities have enabled controlled passages to support relief operations and ensure limited transit of food, medicine, and gasoline across the affected areas. Repair work on the road is still underway to restore normal communication, which is essential for emergency response, commercial activity, and daily life in the plains region.
The partial road closure affects not only Apure and Guárico, as Troncal 2 is a key segment of the San Fernando–Calabozo highway. It also connects Apure’s capital with central states such as Aragua, Carabobo, and the Capital District. Additionally, it is the same route that links Amazonas state in southern Venezuela to the aforementioned regions.
