U.S. Evaluates New Travel Ban Affecting Citizens of Venezuela and Other Countries

Protest against the travel bans to the United States that Donald Trump would implement during his first term, January 29, 2017.

Guacamaya, March 7, 2025. The Trump administration is reportedly considering a new travel ban to the United States, expanding restrictions on citizens from several countries, including some already affected by previous bans, according to a press release from The New York Times.

Venezuela could be added to a list of countries whose citizens would face restrictions on entering the U.S. This potential “red list,” circulating in a draft recommendation within the executive branch, would primarily include nations that have already been subject to previous travel bans. Among them are Cuba, Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the measure is being considered by the Trump administration.
