Group of Journalists Rejects “Turning Venezuela into a War Zone”

Guacamaya, October 4, 2025. More than 70 Venezuelan journalists signed a letter on Saturday rejecting “any form of foreign military intervention in Venezuela.”

The publication of the letter comes amid the deployment of United States armed forces in the Caribbean and lethal bombings against vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

The members of the “Dialogue among Journalists for Peace” include well-known names such as Vladimir Villegas and Francisco “Kiko” Bautista, as well as others who have also participated in politics, like Mercedes Malavé and Juan Barreto.

Below is the full text of the letter:

Journalists Reject Turning Venezuela into a War Zone

The possibility of any form of foreign military intervention in Venezuela is a threat that cannot be accepted, regardless of its origin, and must be rejected by the entire population.

The US military presence in Caribbean waters and the lethal attacks against vessels allegedly involved in drug trafficking, without any proof, endanger peace in this region of the continent and highlight the weakness of international organizations, through whose channels any conflictual situation between two or more nations should be processed.

The unilateral use of military force goes against International Law and the principles contained in the United Nations Charter. Today, it is imperative to prevent the threat or use of force from replacing dialogue, negotiation, and the search for agreements between conflicting parties.

The defense of national sovereignty, also supported by the Code of Ethics of journalistic practice, is an inescapable obligation, regardless of each of our political stances. Therefore, in the clearest and most categorical manner, we reject any form of foreign military intervention in our territory.

We call for and encourage the cohesion of Venezuelan society for the defense of sovereignty. May this initiative serve to achieve the country’s unity in order to address our political, economic, and social problems, based on the principles of the current Magna Carta.

Preserving territorial integrity, the country’s sovereignty, and peace are non-negotiable principles when effectively defending the homeland, Venezuelan identity, and the region—notions that belong to the national collective. We urge a return to diplomatic channels for addressing differences between countries and the discarding of the use of force.

The countries that make up the United Nations (UN) have obligations regarding respect for the norms of International Law, agreements on Human Rights, and respect for the sovereignty of each nation.

No country, no matter how powerful, should arrogate the right to act unilaterally and use weapons to enforce its interests, especially while ignoring the existence of norms that give consistency and viability to an international order born from the need to preserve peace and coexistence among nations.
