Guacamaya, April 14, 2025. In statements highlighting the growing cooperation between Venezuela and Russia, President Nicolás Maduro emphasized that Venezuelan seas are “open to collaboration” with the Eurasian giant. Following the arrival of the Russian scientific vessel Admiral Vladimirsky in La Guaira, the president asserted that the event reaffirms the “joint work between the military forces” of both nations.

“This visit reaffirms the work we are doing on a permanent basis. We have the history of two very important countries, Russia, which today sets the pace for the new world that is emerging with a great leader, President (Vladimir) Putin,” said Maduro, who is scheduled to visit Moscow next month to participate in the Victory Day celebrations over Nazi Germany.

A month ago, Nicolás Maduro held a videoconference with Vladimir Putin to celebrate 80 years of bilateral relations between Caracas and Moscow, during which they agreed on a strategic partnership and cooperation treaty. This treaty includes energy projects in disputed areas and military cooperation, such as the deployment of Russian nuclear submarines in Venezuelan waters.

This pact not only challenges the West but also positions Venezuela as a key player in the Latin American geopolitical landscape. In this context, the visit of the Admiral Vladimirsky symbolizes a milestone in technical-military relations between Caracas and Moscow, strengthening a friendship that promises to redefine the balance of power in the region.

With Maduro’s upcoming visit to Moscow and the eventual signing of the strategic partnership treaty, Venezuela and Russia seem determined to consolidate their alliance in a world increasingly strained by conflicts and territorial disputes. This rapprochement comes at a critical moment, following the truce agreement in Ukraine between Putin and Donald Trump, which could have significant implications for Venezuela.
