Guacamaya, October 26, 2026. Four major international oilfield services companies — SLB, Weatherford International, Baker Hughes, and Halliburton — have once again released a wave of hiring in Venezuela. After the drastic reduction in operations and the massive withdrawal of personnel since 2019, dozens of active vacancies have appeared in the reactivation.
This increase in labor demand responds directly to a dynamism driven by Washington’s energy policy following the political events that occurred as of January 3. With their sights set on an oil reactivation plan estimated at up to $100 billion, the service contractors are taking their first operational steps on the ground.
These foreign companies seek, of course, to supply qualified personnel, platforms, and state-of-the-art tools to the major producers. Although these are still awaiting a definitive legal stability framework, they have the immediate technical objective of raising national production from the current 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) to about 1.5 million bpd by the end of 2027.
This analysis, put forward by sources consulted by Reuters, is also supported by the fact that the initial work required focuses on workover and repair of wells in mature fields. Added to this reality is the gradual return of rigs operated by contractors of the caliber of Chevron, Patterson-UTI, and Blue Energy Partners.
Breakdown of Job Offers by Company
Through detailed analysis of documentary sources and the information available from corporate recruitment platforms, it is possible to map the exact scope and origin of current vacancies.
SLB, the world’s largest provider of technology and services for oil reservoirs, has the greatest technical demand in the field, with up to 35 active vacancies. The company has operational and administrative presence in Maturín, Anaco, Las Morochas, Maracaibo, and Caracas. They are seeking drilling engineers, Wireline supervisors, MWD specialists, well testing specialists, and industrial safety (HSE) managers.
Weatherford International, a multinational specializing in well construction and completion services, maintains at least 20 vacant positions in the country. Its search focuses mainly on the towns of Anaco, Maturín, and Güiria, and the interest centers on pumping and fracturing operators, well supervisors, high-pressure welders (ISDT IV), and field specialists for projects aligned with the Orinoco Belt.
Baker Hughes, an energy technology company focused on turbomachinery, drilling fluids, coiled tubing, and gas infrastructure projects, registers 12 confirmed vacancies at operations centers in Maracaibo and Caracas. They are looking for electromechanical maintenance technicians (ARMO), Coiled Tubing specialists, fluids specialists (FLD/DCF), and technical sales executives.
Halliburton, one of the largest global providers of products and services for the energy industry, keeps its Talent Network active along with a regional call. Its nationwide coverage based in Maturín and Latin American projects presents opportunities for STEM professionals for bottomhole assembly (BHA) design, well planning, as well as talent in HSE, finance, IT, and logistics.
What Is Needed to Apply and How to Do It?
The profiles vary by area, but the standard of these multinationals requires training with a university degree in STEM areas (Engineering preferably) or specialized higher technicians. Likewise, experience from intermediate levels (3+ years) to senior specialists (8+ years) in field operations, as well as proficiency in oil industry software and industrial safety management (HSE).
Likewise, being global firms with headquarters in the United States or Europe, fluent technical and conversational English is a key filter for corporate communication, engineering documentation, and coordination with international clients.
If interested parties meet the requirements or wish to review the technical detail and full description of each position, the most advisable thing is to go directly to the official employment portals of each company: SLB, Weatherford, Baker Hughes, and Halliburton. Once inside, it is important to filter the results by selecting “Venezuela” in the location and to make sure to upload an updated résumé in English.
Socioeconomic Impact and Future Prospects
The return of these global players represents an oxygen valve for the technical labor market of historic oil regions such as Zulia state (Maracaibo and Las Morochas), Monagas (Maturín), and Anzoátegui (Anaco). During the years of paralysis and sanctions, thousands of professionals and technicians left the country or migrated to other economic sectors.
The opening of these vacancies opens a window for the reabsorption of qualified local labor and the return of Venezuelan engineers. However, analysts from firms such as Welligence Energy Analytics, cited by Reuters, suggest maintaining “cautious optimism.”
The pace of job absorption will be closely tied to the speed with which the repair of existing wells and the installation of basic infrastructure are carried out, processes that will precede large-scale exploratory drilling. The consolidation of this trend will depend, ultimately, on the stability of the regulatory environment and the continuity of the announced flow of investments.
